Amazon VAT evidence

In order for the Finance team to process claims relating to Amazon orders, and to recover VAT on it, they must have evidence that VAT was paid. The process for obtaining a VAT invoice for your order varies depending on if the products were sold by Amazon themselves, or a Marketplace Seller.

If your order was sold and dispatched by Amazon

If you need a copy of an itemised VAT invoice, you can find a printable version in Your Account > Your Orders on the Amazon website. The itemised VAT invoice will be available  as soon as your order is dispatched to you.

Note: The billing address on the Amazon invoice is the address associated with your payment method. To reclaim the VAT on orders totalling £250 or more, the billing address must be the Union's address - as such we recommend submitting a request to use the Union's credit card. (See Paying by Credit Card)

If your order was sold and dispatched by a Marketplace Seller

In some circumsatnces, Amazon is required to raise an invoice on behalf of its third party sellers. If this is the case, you will see an invoice in Your Orders. In addition, some Marketplace sellers are enrolled into the Amazon Tax Calculation Service and Amazon can provide a VAT invoice as part of your order on behalf of the seller. If you need a VAT invoice and do not see one available in Your Orders you will need to contact the 3rd party seller directly to ask for one.

If you are not able to obtain a VAT invoice from a Marketplace Seller, please contact icu.finance@imperial.ac.uk to discuss further options.
